About the Teacher

Mary Wind was taught to quilt by her grandmother. But it wasn’t until she was introduced to ‘rotary cutting & strip piecing’ that she became passionate about quilting.  Becoming involved in a quilting group in her church in Miami, she was inspired to start such a group in her new church when she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and then is now working with a group of beginners in her church in Ft. Worth.  She also has worked to inspire and teach women in her hometown in Louisiana.
While in Cincinnati, she taught the yearly Thimbleberries block-of-the-month classes at a quilt shop in Indiana, as well as various other classes and techniques.  While Mary likes introducing new ideas and techniques, she is passionate about introducing the joy of quilting to beginners and takes great delight when the ‘student surpasses the teacher’.

Mary is a widow of over 5 years. She lives with her son, Tony, in Burleson.  Her son, Michael, and his wife Emilea (Matzner) also live in Burleson with their 2 children, Carter & Allie.  Her daughter, Kristen Day, lives in Mason, Ohio with her husband, Jon, and their 3 children, Madison, Morgan & J.  She also work as a Concierge for Heritage Place Assisted Living & Memory Care which she considers a ministry as she cares for and loves the residents of the community.
